A busy week!
By Dawn Iverson | June 19th, 2010 | Category: CONTEXT, FEATURE, RECENT POSTS | No Comments »This week has been a busy one in the sector. As well as being Carers Week, it was also Small Charity Week, Refugee Week and Diabetes Week.
And as if that weren’t enough, the Home Office this week announced that the ISA Vetting and Barring Scheme was to be put on hold:
The Home Secretary Theresa May has confirmed that the comprehensive vettting and barring scheme, due to commence next month, has been put on hold and will be subject to review to bring it ‘back to common sense levels’.
This week seems to have really highlighted the vast amount of work that third sector organizations carry out in the UK. It was good to see Small Charities week highlighted on Twitter. It is these small organizations who carry out such good work ,but who struggle the most with funding, staffing and Government changes.
Due to the nature of the sector, the majority of charities are going to be affected by the outcome of the Vetting and Barring Scheme review. Costs, administration and the effect on volunteer recruitment levels are just some of the concerns from the sector.
